History

• In April 2019, the Institute of Regulatory Science for Medical Devices (IRSMD) was founded by Sichuan University (SCU), which was Authorized as the Research Base of Regulatory Science for Medical Devices by National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).

• In August 2019, Prof. Xingdong Zhang led a team to Chile to participate in the Third Senior Officials' Regulatory ScienceMeeting (SOM3), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2019, and formally applied for the Regulatory Science Training Center of Excellence (CoE).

• In December 2019, the APEC CoE pilot workshop has successfully been held by SCU, and co-organized by the IRSMD and the West China Hospital, SCU. About 140 delegates from 11 APEC economies and 6 non-APEC economics attended the workshop.

• In June 2020, APEC Regulatory Harmonization Steering Committee (RHSC) officially notified Sichuan University of approval to host the APEC CoE in Medical Device Priority Work Area (PWA), in the Second Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM2), APEC 2020.

• In November 2020, the Center of Excellence in Medical Device PWA was founded by SCU.
